How is the overall IELTS score calculated?

The IELTS exam consists of four components: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking;

Each component is scored on a scale of 0-9, with 0.5 as the smallest unit;

Overall score calculation rule: Sum of the four component scores ÷ 4, and the result is rounded to the nearest 0.5;

Example: Listening 7.0 + Reading 6.0 + Writing 6.5 + Speaking 7.0 = 26.5, Overall score = 26.5 ÷ 4 = 6.625 → Final overall score 6.5.

What does an IELTS score of 6.75 round to?

Under IELTS scoring rules, the Overall Band Score is calculated by averaging the four component scores and rounding to the nearest 0.5 or whole number based on the 0.25/0.75 rule.

Since .75 rounds up to the next whole number, 6.75 → 7.0.

What is the minimum IELTS score required by most universities?
